Ladies: why did face powder and cheek rouge go out of fashion?

They didn't - or at least not for very long at any one time

Both products have been used by women since time immemorial - in this country there are records of women using face powders make of things like lead in the middle ages to lighten their complexions - very toxic!

Today rouge is almost universally known as blusher and face powders are one of the most consistent selling make-up items.

There have certainly been periods in fashion when 'natural' looks have been more popular, but blusher and powder were still part of the make-up used to create these looks

Face powder did go out of fashion for awhile in the mid 1970s, when shiny faces became very popular - certainly among the trendy. You could even buy glistening creams called 'shiner' to make your face more glowy.

Both are less popular during the summer - blush is often replaced by bronzer and powder doesn't stand up well on the beach or on holiday

Today powder is often applied with a big brush rather than a puff to give a less formal and powdery finish and blush is also applied with a lighter hand than it was in the 1980s when people often used several shades for a contouring effectLadies: why did face powder and cheek rouge go out of fashion?
i dont think it gone out of fashion, i believe the ';natural look'; came into style which means less make up, but then i believe some women got a little lakidasical in applying makeup... theres natural, and then there is naked..... I prefer the makup... it enhances natural beauty if applied properly.Ladies: why did face powder and cheek rouge go out of fashion?
